Calculation of the kilo consumption of electrical appliances
Calculation of kilowatt-hours for electrical appliances, Usually we need to calculate the electrical energy that we consume during the month in order to know the amount withdrawn or to address the matter by identifying the devices that consume a large amount of electrical energy and avoid operating them throughout the day.
We present to you a simplified method of how to calculate kilowatt-hours for appliances that are powered in the house during the day or month.
Know the kilowatt-hour
The electrical energy we consume is measured in kilowatt-hours. It is an important unit that we find on most electric meters of all kinds.
We often find on the electrical device its power in watts or kilowatts only and not in kilowatt-hours, Because the device’s capacity is the capacity it needs to operate during a period of time estimated at only one hour.
But when we say how much power is consumed in 10 hours for a 70 watt device, Then we say that the energy consumed is 700 watt-hours or 0.7 kilowatt.
Steps for calculating the consumption of electrical appliances
To calculate the amount of electrical appliances consumed during the day, two things must be known:
- The power consumed by the electrical device (the unit used is kilowatts) is usually recorded on the electrical device’s nameplate.
- Electrical energy usage time (the unit used is an hour).
The formula used to calculate the amount of consumption of electrical appliances:
Energy consumed (kilowatt-hours) = power of the electrical device (kilowatts) x number of operating hours
To calculate the amount of energy consumed during the month, use the following formula:
Energy consumed during the month (kilowatt hours) = capacity (kilowatts) x number of operating hours x number of days of the month
Calculation of kilowatt-hours for electrical appliances
If we want to operate the following electrical appliances:
electrical device | Ability | Operating hours |
---|---|---|
electrical heater | 2500 watts | Two hours |
Electric Fireplace | 1200 watts | 5 hours |
electric refrigerator | 200 watts | 23 hours |
Calculate the amount of energy consumed by electrical appliances during a day:
Energy consumed = electrical device capacity x number of operating hours
= 2500 x 2 = 5000 watt-hours
= 1200 x 5 = 6000 watt-hours
= 200 x 23 = 4600 watt-hours
Total Energy Consumed = 5000 + 6000 + 4600 = 15600 Watt Hours
Total energy consumed in kWh = 15600 ÷ 1000 = 15.6 kWh
If we want to calculate the amount of consumption during the month, we multiply the product of the total energy consumed during the day by the number of days of the month (30 days)
Energy consumed during the month = 15.6 x 30 = 468 kWh
