In the modern ear of energy crisis, there are mainly two types of bulbs being used domestically. The choice is between CFL, the compact fluorescent lamp or the led the light emitting diode. Both are energy efficient but for a large spread of light on a wider area, FCL are more suitable. Although the physical size of each articles is almost many times the size of led but is more practical on certain places.
To choose their applications, first we need to see how much we want illumination and equally we require economy as well. Usually CFL are used for lobby, dining areas, porches, bedrooms and even lounges. To have a larger coverage of light area, the larger one that is HCL must be adopted. led right now cannot be used for the total illumination, as their technology has not reached the place where its global larger span illumination could be considered. Economy is there, in led and in CFL, but usage is different, as the basic limitations are the space and financial budget to sustain the change.
Secondly anywhere intense light is not the requirement but durability, solid light is required, long term reliable association is required and economy plus space constraints are LEDs are the most suitable.
Physically the difference between the two is clear. The CFL are much larger in size as compared to single bulb of led.
On high mounted or high ceiling places CFLs are more appropriate. One of the reasons is the larger coverage angle and secondly it gets saved from daily touching, of materials and human errors. CFL may break if subjected to sudden voltage surge or physical pressures. On the contrary, LEDs are not only small, but can withstand the jerks and jolts in certain capacity.
There is no doubt that they both produce light, both sources save energy and are efficient, but primarily due to the light intensity, coverage and design limitations each one has its own requirement in a certain specified areas. The CFL structure has hollow tube with small amount of gas and mercury coated on the inside of the glass tube. But the thickness of the glass is less than the thickness of the led lens and glass canopy. This makes it very delicate and can break easily. On the other hand the led is pretty much robust and can bear a lot of rough handling without being damaged. But they do have a shorter life span!
